The day begins with visits to the paddock area where the jockeys and trainers saddle their mounts for each race and then parade them onto the steeplechase course where the tension and excitement build. The thunder of pounding hooves and the thrill of watching the beauty of a thousand pounds of horse flesh sail through the air over the brush and timber fences is one of the many highlights of the event! In between races you and your guests can visit the various vendor stalls that display items for horse lovers from classic English, country clothing, hats of every variety, silk scarves and ties to t-shirts and polos. You can stroll along the rails and admire the imaginative tailgates and enjoy watching the changing fabric of the people themselves or take the moon bounce. People of all ages can enjoy this day in the gentle countryside of Maryland, just thirty minutes west of Washington, D.C. As a special attraction each year the Potomac Hunt Race features a classic automobile show that is akin to the history and glory of steeplechasing from an era in time that will be long remembered. The Potomac Hunt Races will be awarding a "Peoples Choice Award" for the automobile selected by a majority of ballot votes prior to the start of the days last race. The pageantry begins when tailgates are decorated with festive foods and libations, and continues throughout the day. Competitive pony races, which will charm the oldest and youngest in attendance, start the race day. There will be equine purveyors and clothiers on site as well as food and drink stations The Potomac Hunt Races offers a perfect setting for entertaining family and friends in a time and place not often experienced.
